Chronic Pain Program

UHN Rehabilitation Solutions offers a CARF Accredited Interdisciplinary Pain Management Program called "the Functional Restoration Program", to clients who have chronic pain.

The Functional Restoration Program at UHN RS offers an individualized interdisciplinary approach that is designed to assist clients in dealing with pain.

Research has demonstrated that a cognitive behavioural, interdisciplinary approach is most effective. In most cases, chronic pain has led to loss of function beyond the customary timelines associated with an injury, often also impacting all areas of a person's life.

A multidisciplinary initial assessment determines the client's suitability for the program.

Goals of the program:

• Teach clients to cope with their pain (learn coping strategies they can use in everyday life)
• Teach clients to function at a level that allows them to re-enter the workforce, participate in home activities
• Enable clients to lead productive lives

The treatment team includes the following disciplines & modalities:

• Occupational Therapy
• Physiotherapy
• Kinesiology
• Behavioural Therapy
• Biofeedback
• Psychology
• Occupational Medicine
• Return to Work Coordination

RS offers a unique link to the workplace for the clients in the interdisciplinary pain program. Clinicians can design and implement workplace re-entry plans in consultation with the client, their primary health care provider and their employer.

Our success is built on dealing with complex clients who have had unsuccessful attempts to get their pain under control in the past. We provide regular communication to the referral source and work together for success.
